Greece

  By hearing the word Greece itself gives butterflies in the stomach.It is the most sought after tourist and honeymoon destination in the world.It is a country located in Southeast Europe. There is something about Athens  which is  its largest and capital city and Santorini that makes it the most mesmerizing place in the world and one can hardly stop praising its beauty. My husband decided to surprise me on our first anniversary by taking me to Greece  and we thoroughly enjoyed it from the core of our heart.Greece is popularly known for glorious summer weather, blazing sunshine, clear blue skies and mesmerizing Islands.

Some Facts about Greece:

  •  The Aegean Sea lies to the east of the mainland, the Ionian Sea to the west, the Cretan Sea and the Mediterranean Sea to the south.
  • The official language of Greece is Greek, spoken by 99% of the population.and the most common foreign languages are English, German, French and Italian.
  •  Greece is known for being the cradle of Western Civilization, ancient history and magnificent temples. 
  • The most attractive spots include ancient temples in Greece which are the Parthenon at the Acropolis in Athens, the Temple of Apollo, and the Temple of Poseidon .
  •  Greece is a very safe country to travel to. 
  • The Euro is the only official currency of Greece.
  •  Typically the best time to visit Greece from May to September. 

We visited Athens and Santorini and we stayed for 5 days.

Santorini definitely the most famous of the Greek island known for its for its whitewashed, cube-shaped buildings adorned with blue colours, steep cliffs and mesmerizing sunsets that light up the sky and sea.Santorini is a safe place to visit as a tourist and full of hospitable people. It is considered the finest white in Greece.

Attractions to visit  in Santorini:We spent three days in Santorini, we explored Fira  on day 1. Oia on day 2.Went shopping and enjoyed the picturesque views of Caldera. webooked a cruise for visiting Red Beach, White Beach, and hot springs &Ammoudi Bay.We stayed in Casa Bianca.

Attractions to Visit in Athens: out of 2 days in Athens,we visited The Acropolis(The most emblematic building is the Parthenon, the largest temple of the classical antiquity period),The Pláka and Anafiotika Neighborhoods(known for charming village ambience,Narrow pedestrian streets and the cheerful little squares of the Pláka quarter filled with pastel-painted houses, restaurants, and shops),Monastiraki & the Flea Market(nice vibes and a nice place to wander),Syntagma square(central square).We stayed in Best Western Pythagorion Hotel.

Foods :Being foodies,we tried some popular Greek dishes in Athens & Santorini  like saganaki(an appetizer of fried cheese.),Ntomatokeftedes(refers to these crunchy and juicy fritters made with Santorini’s famed cherry tomatoes),Greek salad( made with fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, capers, and kalamata olives and  topped with feta cheese,olive oil, salt, pepper, and oregano),Magiritsa(Greek soup made with lamb, greens, onions), Fava(yellow split pea puree served with onions, herbs,olive oil),and Moussaka(Greek national dish made of minced meat and eggplant ).We just loved each and every dish we tasted.

Greece is undoubtedly one of the best places to visit and do not forget to have worlds favourite curd (Greek curd).
